5 secrets of successful contacting

Secret #1: Don’t tell everything you know

Your family and friends will try to get you to explain everything at your first contact. You’ll need to learn to convince them otherwise.

Use phrases like, “You can’t really evaluate a movie from the outside of the theater. You need to see a full show.” Or, if you’re on the phone trying to make an appointment for a 3-way call, you can say, “It’s like putting a puzzle together. It’s easiest if you start with the outside edges and go through everything in an orderly way. That’s why I need to introduce you to (your sponsor’s name).”

If you’re inviting them to hear your presentation one-on-one or in a home meeting, you can say, “It’s sort of like giving a haircut over the phone. I really need to show this to you in person.”

Secret #2: Ask for 15 minutes

How much time should you ask for if you’re showing the XYNGULAR presentation one-on-one? You could try a half hour or an hour. But we’ve learned that a 15-minute presentation is most successful for most people. Most people feel more comfortable asking for 15 minutes. You’ll start to relax and get better results if you ask for 15 minutes.

Secret #3: Avoid awkward sales-speak

Too much enthusiasm can drive people away. Too many awkward sales phrases can set them on edge. It’s important for you to be relaxed and natural. Here’s a great phrase for you to try if you’re new to sales is, “you may or may not be interested.” You’ll find that it puts you and your contacts in a more relaxed mood.

Here’s how the whole process works. You call a friend. You just want to get in front of him for a 15-minute presentation.

You say something like this, “I just got involved in a new business opportunity, and I’d like to get your opinion on it. It will only take about 15 minutes. You may or may not be interested.”

He’ll probably ask, “What’s it about?”

“It’s something I’ve got to show you. It’s sort of like giving a haircut over the phone. I can’t really describe it over the phone.”

Secret #4: Always teach a simple system

If you were to take two organizations and let one contact and invite however they want but train the other in a simple and uniform system, the team with a simple system will outperform the random team.

Armed with simple dialogues you’ll naturally expand into many ways to approach people. It’s never quite the same. And over time, that’s what will make it fun. But always start by teaching your new Distributors the simplest system.

Secret #5: Adapt your simple script to multiple situations

We’re all wired differently and at different levels of understanding. Your best method might be doing 3-way calls. You might find terrific success handing out brochures. Or it might work better for you to invite some friends to your home.

A friend may live 200 miles away, and you’ll need to communicate by phone. You might call up a friend and send her to your website. No contact is quite the same. You may start one way and end another. Work with your upline and explore all options and adapt your simple scripts accordingly.

Most leaders have learned that their best contacts will need to go through 7 separate exposures before they make a decision. Others will make a decision right away. There is no one best way to do it, and that’s what will keep this business interesting.

But build your confidence on the most proven, successful, and simple systems. You’ll branch out from there.

ACTION STEPS:

  1. Write 3 separate first-contact scripts in your own words—keep them simple and try to adapt them to real-life situations and circumstances you are most likely to encounter.
  2. Practice different approaches with your upline or a family member and adapt them according to the feedback you receive.
  3. Once you find your favorite scripts that work best for you, share them with your team. Practice them and get them into a simple system of contacting 3 people a day.
